Agnostic Kirtan
Deep discussions last night about what meditation seemed most beneficial to someone fairly new to meditating. The chant. As a catholic, there was familiarity with the rosary.
The singing chant with music, for me. I think the science is indisputably favorable. The music fills the room so the fear of someone hearing you hum is reduced. Getting you out of your head enough to participate at any level helps. Once you get to the words or singing along you've consumed so much brain following what you're saying there's not much left for ruminating. The words don't matter as much. Kirtan - But as an agnostic it feels a little weird knowing they are holy names. How to create a sing song loving mantra with music? Everyone's doing it, instantly feels like community. Valgus nerve activates on humming/singing.
Discussions also flowed to IFS which seems to be in use for friends child and working very effectively. Identified by use of the word "parts". One thing I didn't have until very much later in life was heros/mentors/guides... Gabor Maté holds a spot with his compassionate inquiry. There's so much you can do for your wounded parts if you approach them with a bit of gentle curiosity. Ask these parts what they need. Where the wound is, that's where the light enters.
Maybe just use a loving kindness for all beings.
Call & Response Style (or Group Repetition):
> May all beings be happy
> May all beings be free of suffering
> May all beings know peace
> May all beings feel love
Optional Closing Line (to repeat or hum):
May we live with kindness to share
