Deep discussions last night about what meditation seemed most beneficial to someone fairly new to meditating. The chant. As a catholic, there was familiarity with the rosary. The singing chant with music, for me. I think the science is indisputably favorable. The music fills the room so the fear of someone hearing you hum is reduced. Getting you out of your head enough to participate at any level helps. Once you get to the words or singing along you've consumed so much brain following what you're saying there's not much left for ruminating. The words don't matter as much. Kirtan - But as an agnostic it feels a little weird knowing they are holy names. How to create a sing song loving mantra with music? Everyone's doing it, instantly feels like community.
